Global Leadership Forum

Maher will be sending Gauri and Monali to the Global Leadership Forum in New Mexico in 2015. The Howley Foundation is doing a fundraiser for this.

The United World College (UWC.org) is an international high school. There are twelve such schools around the world, including one in New Mexico, USA. Founded in 1962, "UWC schools, colleges and programmes deliver a challenging and transformative educational experience to a diverse cross section of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future."

The Global Leadership Forum (http://www.uwc-usa.org/page.cfm?p=604) is the UWC USA's two-week summer session. Maher is honored and grateful for the opportunity to send two more students to this incredible program.

Last year many of you helped send Trupti and Pooja, two young girls, to the international leadership summer camp, the Global Leadership Forum (GLF). This camp takes place at the prestigious United World College (UWC) USA in New Mexico.

Thankfully, the UWC has once again offered full scholarships to two Maher students. Gauri Dhokle,16 and Monali Babar, 16, have been selected to represent Maher this year. We are raising money for their travel.

Gauri Dhokle is 16 years old and has been living at Maher since she was 8. Her dream is to become the president of India. As president, she wants to make services for the poor more effective and to give women more opportunities for leadership and independence. When she goes to university, Gauri would like to study politics as well as doing deep study in physics and chemistry. Her hobbies include public speaking and writing poetry, and she has a Blue belt in Taekwondo.
Monali Babar was 7 years old when she came to Maher. Now, at 16, she is in the 11th grade studying commerce. She wants to go to university for a Bachelor's in business and then an MBA. She would like to be CEO of a company someday. She's excited about travelling abroad because she loves to learn about new cultures and places. In her free time Monali does classical Indian dance and is also a talented painter, mendhi (henna) artist and rangoli (sand painting) artist.

Gauri and Monali are both intelligent girls with bright smiles and exciting dreams. Their upbringing at Maher has instilled in them a strong sense of self-worth and respect for all people. They are both dedicated, hardworking students. This experience at the GLF will help them develop important leadership skills, confidence and worldliness that will help ensure their success.

Our goal is to raise $4,000 by June 1st, intended to cover airfare and visa-related expenses (both girls have passports already). Like Pooja and Trupti, Gauri and Monali will come to Vermont for a week before the camp begins. We're all very excited!

Contributions of every size are greatly appreciated!
