An inaugural celebration of the Maher home in the village of Chano, Jharkhand, India was held on May 10, 2014. Guests of honor were Bandhu Tirkey, MLA, Brenda Howley, The Howley Foundation, donors; Dr. Nicola Pawar, Maher trustee and Sr. Lucy, the founder of Maher & Hirabegum Mulla, the President of Maher.
Hundreds of villagers and well-wishers of Maher were witness to this grand ceremony that made them at once proud and hopeful. They included over 2,000 people from the nearby villages like Sargaon, Rani Chachu, Tanger, Karkat, Bijupada, Hajaribag, Gomia (Bokaro) and Ranchi.
The Home has been created to reach the ever increasing number of homeless children in this undeveloped part of the country. To begin with it will accommodate 50 children with plans for other buildings.
